The National anuncia álbum tributo a Grateful Dead

Este álbum incluirá bandas como Kurt Vile and the Violators, Mumford and Sons, Perfume Genius, Tallest Man on Earth, Local Natives y The Flaming Lips.

The National anunció el lanzamiento del álbum Day of the Dead, un álbum tributo fuerte (y hasta pesado) a la banda oriunda de California, Grateful Dead. Tiene una duración de seis horas distribuidas en tres discos, el primero y el tercero de 20 canciones, y el segundo de 19, formando un compilado de 59 tracks originales.

Hace casi tres años Aaron Dessner, guitarrista de The National (banda que también forma parte del proyecto caritativo de Global Citizen) dijo a la revista Relix que la banda estaba trabajando mucho, hablando con varios artistas y sentando las bases del álbum que hoy ha sido anunciado en su totalidad. Day of the Dead tardó cuatro años en grabarse y producirse, cuenta con más de 60 músicos, bandas y artistas invitados de los géneros rock, música clásica y world music.

Este disco tiene como fecha de lanzamiento el día 20 de mayo, y todo lo recaudado de las ventas irá destinado a la organización Red Hot, que ha producido los últimos 20 discos de este tipo en beneficio a la lucha contra el SIDA/VIH. Aunque se trata de un sólo álbum, éste se divide en 3 compilaciones que llevan por nombre Thunder, Lightning, y Sunshine.

Los hermanos Aaron y Bryce Dessner fueron los productores de este material junto a Josh Kaufman bajo el sello de 4AD, y será presentado digitalmente en las plataformas musicales, en paquete de CD y la edición limitada de un box set de los discos en vinil. Aquí está la lista de canciones y sus respectivos intérpretes:
